Jharkhand is home to countless picnic spots, many of which are still untouched by mass tourism. Even today, several of these destinations remain hidden, far from the usual travel routes and crowds.

Many rivers in Jharkhand flow deep through the remote Saranda forests, winding their way between rugged hills and massive rock formations. Over centuries, these constantly flowing rivers have carved through solid stone, creating breathtaking waterfalls and cascades across mountains and rocky landscapes.

My journey today led me to one such hidden gem. About 15 kilometers inside from Torpa, right at the edge of the Saranda forest, lies a small yet mesmerizing waterfall known locally as Papra Sereng. If you search on Google, you’ll find it listed as Nidhi’s Fall. I’ll be sharing the Google Maps location link below for those who wish to explore this untouched natural beauty themselves.

During the arrival of the New Year, most people in Jharkhand head toward remote locations to celebrate picnics, share happiness, and spend quality time with family and friends. The festive spirit of Christmas and the beginning of the New Year fills everyone’s hearts with excitement and energy. If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you already know that we often explore the hidden beauty of Jharkhand and discover new, unexplored destinations.

This time, we set out in search of a different kind of picnic spot. Over the years, I have celebrated New Year picnics at many places across Jharkhand, but this was the very first time that our entire family decided to welcome the New Year at a picnic spot close to our ancestral village, Latauali Lodobadi, near the neighboring village of Arra Hassa.

1st January 2026 — the first day of the year. A brand-new picnic destination awaited us: a place where gently flowing rivers, peaceful surroundings, mesmerizing views, tall trees, the rustling sound of sal leaves, and scenic hills came together in perfect harmony—far away from crowds and noise.

From early morning, we were busy preparing for the picnic. We couldn’t wait to reach this place and lose ourselves in its natural beauty.

The Journey to Papra Sereng

Our journey began with excitement and curiosity. The road from Torpa gradually narrowed as we moved closer to the Saranda forest region. Concrete roads slowly turned into village paths, surrounded by green fields, dense forests, and small tribal settlements. Every turn revealed a new view—sometimes a quiet stream crossing the road, sometimes a herd of cattle resting under large trees.

As we approached Papra Sereng, the sound of flowing water became clearer. The air felt cooler, fresher, and filled with the earthy fragrance of the forest. This was the moment we knew—we had reached somewhere truly special.

First Glimpse of the Waterfall

Papra Sereng may not be a massive waterfall, but its charm lies in its simplicity and untouched nature. Crystal-clear water flows gently over layered rocks, creating small cascades before joining the river below. The surrounding rocks, shaped by time and water, form natural seating spots—perfect for resting, photography, and quiet reflection.

Standing there, listening to the continuous sound of flowing water, felt almost meditative. Unlike popular tourist spots, there were no loudspeakers, no plastic waste, and no crowd—just nature in its purest form.

Picnic Moments with Family

We chose a shaded spot near the riverbank, spread our mats, and settled down. Homemade food tastes different when eaten in nature—perhaps better, richer, and more satisfying. Laughter, shared stories, childhood memories, and simple conversations made the moment unforgettable.

Children played near the water under careful supervision, elders rested under the trees, and some of us explored nearby rock formations. Time seemed to slow down, allowing us to truly live in the present.

Why Papra Sereng Is Special

  • Completely untouched and less crowded
  • Ideal for family picnics and nature lovers
  • Perfect for photography and short nature walks
  • Peaceful environment near Saranda forest
  • Close to villages, yet far from city noise

This place is not about luxury or facilities—it is about silence, greenery, and connection with nature.
